3D-PRINTABLE CHESS SET

I have a previous design of a butterfly, and I want to continue to develop it to be 3D project. Due to my super tight schedule, I can only finish 3D printing for two of them (that would be the Queen and the Pawn). I am continuing my project this week. If I have more materials, I will print the colours as the render. 

Problems: 

I have a problem closing all the surfaces,  it always happens. It might affect the printing process. Next time I need to carefully cut solid. 

And the 3D print cost longer than I thought. But I went to the studio today, and the technician gave me more advice and training, I will know the printing time via Prusa beforehand. 










However, 3D printing is not so very successful. There are some holes and disconnected parts, and the support materials are hard to take off.

My original design is like that. And I chose Cherry Wood, because I thought the dark colour would be good. However, the deep grey and the black were too close to each other, and the patterns in the middle were very hard to see. And many lines were too thin and small details were hard to see. But the high contract part was good.  The first laser cut attempt Based on the first version,  I improved my original design and increased the contract. And changed the wood to Birch Plywood.  I also wanted to try a hollow design with simpler patterns. So I designed the second pattern. Both patters look good now, and I like them.

My first Castle built in Rihno

Hello and welcome to my first blog post! I am learning Rhino, and as a warm-up I created a 3D model of a Castle. It is inspired by a medieval fortress.  I used cubes as bricks to build the wall and the main body of the castle. And I used cones and pyramids to build the top.  So far, I have very limited knowledge of Rihno, this is what I have for now.  I know it looks very rough, but I will continue to refine it.  Challenges:  I struggled with almost everything. Rihno is so new to me, all the skills I learned from the other software like Adobe suit do not work with Rihno. Every move in Rihno drove me crazy, it never works as I wish. And I feel it is very hard to control the angle, zoom in and zoom out, I always lost and can't find the main coordinate ( zoom too far maybe). I was not sure whether all shapes were attached together, even though I opened the Grip Snap. In Adobe, the movement of attachment is strong.   This is my process so far. I made most big parts of the outer shell, and now I am moving to more details and small parts.
