MILESTONE PROJECTS

Image
  1. Castle:  Since I missed two weeks of class, that time I didn't have any logic to build a castle😿.  2.  Surface Design Study  (Color) :  At that time, I barely knew how to use the Hatch and control the curves in Rhino😓. 3. Surface Design Study ( Laser Cut Sample ) Thanks to Arica, she helped me to print a few samples to test the better colours and shapes👯 4. Reverse Engineered Object My biggest project ever 🙊 it takes me a few weeks to work on. I wanted to choose an object that challenges me and looks good in my portfolio, but I also need to make sure I can finish it.  4.5 The Ring👏 5. 3D Printed Chess Set 💪 Due to the super tight schedule during the final time, I have not finished the set. But I made two examples and they are now in 3D printing. So it is very doable for me to draw and print them all.

3D-PRINTABLE CHESS SET

I have a previous design of a butterfly, and I want to continue to develop it to be 3D project. Due to my super tight schedule, I can only finish 3D printing for two of them (that would be the Queen and the Pawn). I am continuing my project this week. If I have more materials, I will print the colours as the render.  Problems:  I have a problem closing all the surfaces,  it always happens. It might affect the printing process. Next time I need to carefully cut solid.  And the 3D print cost longer than I thought. But I went to the studio today, and the technician gave me more advice and training, I will know the printing time via Prusa beforehand.  However, 3D printing is not so very successful. There are some holes and disconnected parts, and the support materials are hard to take off.  ------------------------------------ This week, I finally made all 6 cheers.

REVERSE ENGINEERED OBJECT - Final

Image
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This project took me a very long time to finish. It has many components that need to be measured, but luckily, we learned most methods in class, so it is not too hard.  The assemble took me much longer time than I expected, there are a few issues:  1) Some parts are not quite fit to each other. Even though in the drawing process, I tried my best to measure, errors still exist. Sometimes I felt it is not that important, the final outcome was just a concept, and it was fine to be not accurate. It turned out to be a big problem I needed to fix in the last step.  2)I had problems in the materials part, some materials look pure black in my components. I know some errors happen, but I don't know why. 3) The worst part, is the handle. It was not fit the shapes and screws at all. I was in despair, I spent a few hours to search a solution online, but I couldn't solve it. Luckily, somehow I found the ad

Ring

I designed this Lotus ring. Mainly used trim, rotation, and BooleanDifference.  There are a few things I need to solve: 1) I don't know what format to output, I tried many different types of files as listed in the Shapeways, but none works yet. 2) There is a connection problem after the rendering.

REVERSE ENGINEERED OBJECT: PROGRESS III (extended week)

Image
This week, I modelled more details and more small pieces.  Now I finished all the elements I need and in the next step, I will move to the materials and environment.

REVERSE ENGINEERED OBJECT: PROGRESS II

This is my process so far. I made most big parts of the outer shell, and now I am moving to more details and small parts. I think if I have more time, I will be able to finish most parts of the clock.  However, I have not successfully made screws yet. I stuck in the little triangle part for screws. Drawings More pieces
